Educator
David was the instructor at the Breining Institute Addictions Studies Program for over twenty years. He taught courses in:
- Adolescent Addiction,
- Family Counseling in the Treatment of Addiction, and
- Personal and Professional Development for the Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
He also taught two classes at the UC Davis Extension Program:
- Adolescent Addiction
- Adult Addiction
He also taught a course on Adolescent Addiction Issues for several years at California State University Sacramento Extension Program.
In his role as a board member of the Forum on Chemical Dependency, David brought the first three day conference on Adolescence Addiction with national speakers to Northern California.
David has been the keynote speaker in venues across the country and has provided multiple seminars for physicians, psychiatrists, therapists and educators.
David held a bi weekly segment on a Greater San Francisco Bay Area radio show on Addiction and has been interviewed by local media sources, television, and newspaper as an expert on adolescent substance use.
David played a significant role in the development of one of the first sober high schools in the country in the San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD). As a member of the SJUSD and the Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) Substance Abuse Task Forces, David helped to develop Prevention and Student Assistance Programs.
He also provided countless educational workshops for parents, school staff and the general population throughout Northern California.
In the private sector, David played a significant role in the development of alcohol and drug education and intervention programs in the Sacramento parochial high schools and in the private high schools, Country Day and Waldorf.
David worked closely with non-profit agency administrators and staff to ensure best practices, including policies and procedures, funding, and team building.
Through New Directions Program, David sponsored many educational opportunities from national experts in the field of addiction for professionals and the public.
He is currently utilized by attorneys as an expert witness in court cases in California.
